Top 5 Badass Women of Anime – Sakura, Shippuden Style!

MWAHAHA! A new week has begun therefor it is time to bring you a new lady ranking at #4! And yes, most obviously this post is about Sakura! Not the weak regular Naruto one, the BADASS Shippuden one!

Let me begin this post by saying that I am not a big Naruto fan. With that said, it’s shocking that a character from Naruto made it into the rankings at all. I don’t watch it avidly, I’ve seen a few arcs here and there, but only when they interest me. There was only one reason why I watched the original Naruto and that was Gaara, because I’m in frickin’ love with him! ^.^ But when Shippuden rolled around and I had nothing better to do, I checked it out. Then another reason for me to watch popped out of no where, and that was this new badass Sakura. I was spazzing out when Shippuden began with Gaara anyways but then I couldn’t help but wonder if Sakura was going to get Tsunade’s insane strength. She did, and I hate her less now.

I pretty much hated Sakura in the original Naruto. She was annoying, weak, and love obsessed with Sasuke, who I hate. There wasn’t much to like about her, which surprised me because I have a fetish for anime girls with pink hair. All she did was whine, bitch at Naruto and rely on everyone else to get her out of danger. Then I watched the arc with the Chunin (sp?) Exams and was like “Oh, finally maybe she’ll quit being a baby now.” It didn’t happen. Sure, she did something on her own but it didn’t really change her at all.

Sakura had barely any character development from what I saw of the original Naruto. She just pissed me off when she was on screen, and then she’d talk and I’d get more pissed off! So I was shocked when she FINALLY took some initiative and asked to train under Tsunade. (Not that I didn’t see it coming.)

Now, on to what I LOVE about Shippuden Sakura…cause that’s what this post is supposed to be about, right? Hehe…I think I got out of control with my ranting. ^.^

I was hoping desperately when I started watching Shippuden that Sakura would have changed, it would make the show easier to watch. I wasn’t disappointed, Sakura did change. She wasn’t the self-centered, whining girl I remembered. I quickly thanked the god of anime and the mangaka and continued watching.

When we left off in the original Naruto, Sakura was just learning medical techniques, so we didn’t really know if she’d get the insane strength from Tsunade or not. I just assumed she would cause that would make it funner for me, and she did.

Sakura not only has Tsunade’s strength, she’s also got a very similar attitude. Cocky mixed with honest girl works for her. I was so surprised when she didn’t piss me off that I almost fell out of my chair. Not only did not piss me off, but she was cool. Way cooler than Naruto himself had gotten. (Can’t top Gaara though, cause he only got hotter!)

When Shippuden began I was so torn on which part I wanted to see more! Sakura using her spastic strength to corner Kakashi or Gaara fighting Deidara! (It’s a good thing they were flipping back and forth) I became a hardcore Sakura fangirl with the first punch she threw. I’d like to see a guy try to do that, cause I don’t think they could manage it.

And then as the arc progressed (This is the only arc I watched of Shippuden) we got to see Sakura hold her own against Sasori. I was crazy happy how everyone was depending on her. They would never have gotten into the hideout if she hadn’t punched that cliff.

Sakura fighting without a boy there to back her up was something entirely new to me. By the time that fight was over that cave was completely demolished due to the punches she’d thrown. Her badassness had reached such a climactic point that I began to idolize her, cause I seriously want to be able to throw punches like that! (Plus I think it’s just totally awesome the way she puts on her gloves before a fight, lets you know that good stuff is coming! And she looks cool! ^.^)

I did have some problems with the Shippuden version of Sakura though, but they weren’t her fault, it’s the stupid animators! The way they draw her in Shippuden makes her look like a boy and completely ugly from certain angles! How could the do that?! What happened to pretty girly Sakura from the original version?! Why’d they go and make her ugly?! WHY?! They just needed to lengthen her hair a little bit and she’d be just as pretty as before!! SHE DESERVES THAT! *Stabs animating company repeatedly*

That didn’t diminish my love for her though, she was still just as cool even if she was ugly.

Sakura ranks at #4 because though she changed in Shippuden, she still loses points cause I hated her originally. Her fighting style had grown to a point where it was even stronger than Naruto’s and that made me happy. Girls never get the credit when they fight and they should! And not only does she fight amazingly well but she is also very smart. Being a medical ninja is a hard task and she’s really frickin’ good at it.

I’m sure I could rant on about this forever, but I don’t think anyone really wants to read about the play by play version of how awesome I thought the fight was between Sakura and Sasori. (Plus that would take years to type T.T)

So since Sakura finally got some character development and awesome skills, she made it into my ranking. Be shocked because this is probably the only Naruto related post I’ll ever make. (Unless I decide to vent some happy fangirl love for Gaara in the future. ^.^ )
