Itazura Na Kiss – A Slice of Life More Addicting than Crack!

I’ve been playing the anime catch up game again. I had to watch new episodes of Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, Soul Eater and Itazura Na Kiss.

And let me say, Itazura Na Kiss is an anime that is playing with my emotions.

Itazura Na Kiss captivated me from the first episode. I was completely thrown by the animation style, it seemed like a combo of new and classic. I finally adjusted to it when I realized that it reminded me of Full Metal Panic!’s animation. Particularly around the eyes.

I watched episodes 1-15 in no time at all, but then sadly realized that I was all out of episodes! I’d caught up to the point where I would have to wait for the new episodes, which I just absolutely don’t like doing. I only wait if it’s a particularly good anime, otherwise my attention span isn’t long enough for me to remember to check on the episodes.

But I really wanted to know how they’d continue the anime after the marriage and honeymoon between Irie and Kotoko, so I distracted myself with other things while waiting for new episodes.

Distracting myself isn’t the best way to go about it. T.T During this span of time I discovered Soul Eater and finally began Macross Frontier…and before I realized the episodes of Itazura Na Kiss had piled up. So I’ve spent the past two days watching episodes 16-22…and I only have three words…OH MY GOD!

This anime was good before, but it just got better! I really expected it to lag after the marriage, but was shocked when I found myself even more interested in it than I was before!

I loved this anime anyways, just because of the good plot. I wasn’t annoyed by the time jumps between episodes and was thoroughly thrilled with watching Irie realizing that he did indeed love Kotoko. All the funny moments in between were just a major bonus!

I love this anime so much because it’s so easy to relate to. It doesn’t have the basic set up of the romance/slice of life genre. It’s far more believable than any I’d seen in the past. (Other than when Kotoko’s house collapsed) I could see all of this happening in real life, and I love that aspect in anime. (I suppose that’s why there is a drama version…maybe I’ll watch that?)

In defense of Irie-kun, I wish everyone would quit being so mean toward him. I think he is the perfect match for Kotoko. Of course he’s cold toward her, but that’s just his personality, he’s cold toward everyone. It’s what I like about him! And he shows his love for Kotoko a lot when she doesn’t know it. :P Granted, he is a spoiled brat and that makes him stupid in dealing with love problems. Honestly though, I’d rather watch a spoiled boy for a change. I’m so sick of spoiled shoujo girls!

Episodes 16-22 sent my emotions on a roller coaster. Episode 16 wasn’t anything too special for Kotoko or Irie, but I still enjoyed it. We got to adjust to their married life in this episode and watch Kotoko take up nursing.

But all of the episodes after 16 have been packed with slice of life action! Watching Keita fall for Kotoko, and go off on Irie was just brilliant. Seeing Irie jealous almost made me die of happiness, and then watching Kotoko freak out and run away from Irie was amazing as well. (I actually cried during this scene…T.T)

And then to put a cherry on top of the drama cake, Irie admits his jealousy in front of tons of people and declares that Kotoko is his! I squealed so much! I liked Keita, but I am a pure Irie/Kotoko supporter. Plus Keita’s love for Kotoko seemed rather shallow and he got over it quickly.

I was in a world of happy fangirl fluff while I began the next few episodes. That world went bye-bye pretty quickly, with the reappearance of Non-chan. I was spellbound again. Non-chan had turned into such a spoiled superstar. I would have smacked him more than once, but at least Kotoko did smacked him. (Never insutl Irie in front of Kotoko…or me. It could get dangerous!) XD

After the situation with Non-chan gets resolved, even more drama comes up in Kotoko’s birthday episode! (I understood the about 70% of the RAW version…shocked myself, that’s way better than my normal 40%) XD

Kotoko got a birthday date! Irie was so sweet! And then at the episode, if me and tons of other people aren’t mistaken…KOTOKO IS PREGNANT! *Dies a very happy fangirl death*

I am going crazy waiting for the next episode! Hence this post, I wanted to vent some fan girl love for Itazura Na Kiss, while waiting for new episodes. It seemed a better method of distracting myself then forgetting completely. :P

Itazura Na Kiss is just too good. It’s something shoujo lovers everywhere should enjoy! I’m currently suffering withdrawal symptoms and banging my head against the wall. I’m not a very patient person! ^.^

Well I’m glad you managed to catch up because this show is, in short, awesome! (I’d say something of more substance, but I’ve got to run now…)

    I agree with issa; Itakiss is a great show. Unfortunately, I’m farther behind than you are, so I think I’m going to need to catch up. ><;

I finished Itazura na kiss and absolutely loved it more than I anticipated. It’s the whole going beyond getting-the-girl that makes it so enjoyable. Now I’ve been trying to find an anime that will do that. Could anyone recommend something? I just saw Special A and although it was nice and the CG was better, it couldn’t compare to this.
